20th Anniversary

Ricky Running Sisters Celebrate 20 Years of Fun, Friendship, and Fitness

The Ricky Running Sisters, a women’s running club founded in 2004, reunited with past and present members on 28th September 2024 to celebrate 20 years of promoting fitness and community. The event, held at Rickmansworth’s parkrun, brought together some members, to mark two decades of the club’s impact.

Founded by Debra Smith-Gorick in September 2004, Ricky Running Sisters has grown steadily, holding over 100 members annually. The club is built on the principles of “Fun, Friendship, and Fitness,” a motto that has resonated with women of all ages and running abilities, including a walking group. “We started this club to create a space where women could enjoy running while supporting each other. It’s amazing to see how far the club has continued and grown”  said Debra during the 20th anniversary celebration.

Two founder members are leading the club, President Rose Goodchild and Vice President Julie Everett. Their dedication and passion for the club have been instrumental in driving its success and fostering an inclusive environment where every member can thrive.

“It’s been an amazing experience to be part of a club for 20 years. It’s not just about the running—it’s about the friendships we’ve built. We have an amazing group of committee ladies that have incredible organisational prowess and numerous initiatives and fun ideas through-out the year” said Rose.

Rose added “Running has always been more than just exercise for us. It’s about creating a supportive community, building lifelong friendships, and pushing each other to be our best. This club means so much to me, and seeing it grow over the last 20 years has been a true honour”.

Julie’s leadership has been especially evident in her dedication to nurturing beginners through the club’s popular beginners program, which has inspired countless women to start running, many of whom have gone on to become long-term members.

Ricky Running Sisters continues to welcome newcomers over 16 years old, offering information on fitness and health and upcoming events. It has aimed to build a sense of community and camaraderie among its members. The club have kept their original membership charge the same at £15 per year,  offering £5 off to the over 60’s and then half this membership from the 1st July.

As the Ricky Running Sisters celebrate their 20th anniversary, the future looks bright for the club. With a strong foundation in friendship and fitness, the club is expected to continue attracting new members and supporting women in their fitness journeys for years to come.

Here’s to another 20 years of running, growing, and thriving together!
