LOVE PARKRUN LOVE VOLUNTEERING

On Valentine’s Day 2026, Ricky Running Sisters proudly delivered a full volunteer takeover of Rickmansworth parkrun — and what a morning it was.
With over 30 RRS volunteers stepping forward, our members filled almost every available role to help safely deliver an event attended by more than 600 runners and walkers. From warm-up to token sorting, it was a true demonstration of what community spirit looks like in action.
Showcasing Community
The takeover wasn’t simply about wearing pink (although there was plenty of that!). It was about showing:
- The power of women supporting their local community
- The importance of volunteering in grassroots sport
- That parkrun truly is for everyone — walkers, runners, beginners and experienced athletes alike
- How confidence grows when we step into new roles
RRS members took on timekeeping, marshalling, barcode scanning, funnel management, park walking, tail walking and token sorting, ensuring every participant was welcomed, cheered and supported.
For many of our members, volunteering was a first. For others, it was a chance to give back to the event that has played such a huge part in their own running journeys.
Running Matters
Ricky Running Sisters exists to build confidence through running but confidence doesn’t only grow on the course.
By volunteering:
- New friendships are formed
- Women step into visible, responsible roles within the local community
- We model participation and inclusion
The takeover demonstrated that RRS is more than a running group. We are a supportive network that shows up for each other and for our community.
